The Alliance of Air National Guard Flight Surgeons History:

The Alliance of Air National Guard Flight Surgeons (AANGFS) is a 501(c)(4) non-profit professional organization that provides timely education and information for its member Flight Surgeons currently serving or retired from the United States Air National Guard. The organization was founded in January 1980 by Col. Blas Moreno (deceased) of the Rhode Island Air National Guard. Dr. Moreno was a renowned philanthropist and talented flight surgeon. The Alliance and its member physicians will be forever grateful for his work and efforts in creating our organization.

Since the time of its formation, the AANGFS has strived to provide relevant information for our nation's ANG Flight Surgeons. Pre-digital age communication was difficult. As a result, the AANGFS created a newsletter that distributed useful and timely information for ANG Flight Surgeons both at home and when deployed abroad.

The coming of the digital age led to the brainchild of Col. William Pond (Ret.) of the Indiana Air National Guard. He created and maintained the original website for more than 15 years. Dr. Pond worked tirelessly on the website using his own time and even frequently at his own expense. His dedication and commitment to the Alliance of Air National Guard Flight Surgeons will be forever remembered by us all.

In 2021, Col. Ludwig completely redesigned our online presence, introducing fresh colors and a new AANGFS logo and patch. Today, with the assistance of AI, we have further improved our logo, which is proudly displayed throughout our materials. In 2026, as we transition to this upgraded platform, our website continues to evolve. It provides streamlined directories, modernized forums, and updated resources tailored to the busy ANG Flight Surgeon. Our continued commitment remains the same as it was in 1980: to provide up-to-date, timely communication and support to our nation's finest Flight Surgeons.

I hope you find this new and improved website helpful!
